Year 2 (Dragonfly)
Welcome Year 2 Class of 2025/2026
Term 3 is History - Marvellous Monarchs!
In Year 2, children learn about British monarchs to help them understand who leads our country and how this has changed over time. Exploring kings and queens helps children develop a sense of British history, tradition and national identity in a way that is age-appropriate and engaging.
Learning about monarchs supports children’s understanding of the past and present. They discover that monarchs once had great power, but today their role is mostly ceremonial, helping children begin to understand ideas such as fairness, leadership and responsibility.

Reading

We absolutely love reading in Dragonfly class. All books will be changed on Friday unless you're really excited and want them changed sooner, bring them in and choose something new.
Spelling

From your first days in EYFS or KS1 you will be working with the Little Wandle scheme for phonics, guided reading, home reading and spellings.
Home Learning
Home learning will be sent home on Fridays. This will be a good way to share your class learning from the week, with your family at home. You may bring your home learning book into school on any day, just make sure it is in by Friday ready for your new projects.
Uniform

In Dragonfly class we like to do our best in all areas, this includes dressing our best! To make sure your smart uniform and treasured possessions don't become lost, name your belongings and name them often! Make it your goal by the end of KS1 to dress and undress yourself, be able to look after your possessions and always tuck in your shirt.
Snack and Drink

Choose a colourful, sturdy water bottle that won't mind the odd free dive from the worktop and try to make your name tag stand out. Please just fill it with water - it's the best for your body and teeth. We keep our bottles on the worktop near the back of the class, this is because a trip or a slip could mean a day, week or even term of work could be washed away. Speaking of colourful, we enjoy a healthy fruit or vegetable snack at 10.45 each day. Our school provides our snack in KS1 but if you want to bring your own fruit or vegetable then go ahead.
Homework

While in school, we work really hard with short breaks. Make sure you use your time at home to invest in your own special interests, play outside, play with toys, play with friends. Explore your world, ask lots of questions, read plenty of books. Talk! Talk to everyone, listen to what they have to say. Teach your younger people, learn from your older people. Practise your kindest manners.
Let's have a wonderful year.
